Summary

This series documents the governor's power to appoint or nominate for appointment certain officials, as authorized by the State Constitution and numerous legislative acts. The correspondence consists mainly of letters from persons requesting appointment; letters and petitions recommending persons for appointment; and copies of letters from the governor or his staff acknowledging receipt of application or recommendation letters.

Summary

This series is comprised of oversized, folded tabulations on columnar paper showing numbers of votes for candidates for various local and statewide offices and for electors for president and vice-president of the United States in the general election of November 8, 1904. They were submitted by county boards of canvassers to provide the governor with detailed information on election results. Only Allegany, Kings, Onondaga, Richmond, Suffolk, and Washington counties are represented in this series.

This series documents Frank Wayland Higgins' political career as New York State Senator, Governor, and Lieutenant Governor. The bulk of the series consists of newspaper clippings of articles and political cartoons, invitations to social occasions, correspondence, and telegrams housed in scrapbooks. A significant portion of the records document Higgins' campaigns for office, as well as the struggle for power in the Republican Party.

This series consists of an annual report submitted to the governor by the State Board of Health. Subjects include sewage systems; water supplies; water pollution sources; instructions to local boards of health; investigation of food coloring; investigations of sanitary conditions at summer resorts; vital statistics recording; sanitary conditions of the State including information on outbreaks of small pox, influenza, typhoid fever, diphtheria, measles, scarlet fever, and acute respiratory diseases; and an extensive report by the Tuberculosis Committee.

Summary

This series consists of one bound volume containing the certified copy of the bill revising the New York City charter that was transmitted to the mayor for approval and comment. In addition to the 1,165 page bill, the volume also includes Mayor Robert A. Van Wyck's thirty-eight page response explaining why the bill had not been accepted.

Volume is fragile and must be handled under supervision of State Archives staff. Researchers interested solely in the text of the act are advised to consult published versions of the New York State session laws.
