Subjects include management of military troops; military engagements, fortifications, and maneuvers; handling of loyalists, spies, traitors, deserters, and prisoners; Indian relations and Indian military activities; gubernatorial elections; ratification of the Articles of Confederation and the U.S. Constitution; Vermont border controversy; evacuation of British troops from New York City; sales of forfeited land; and postwar British occupation of military posts.

Summary

This volume contains official correspondence between Governor Clinton and the State Legislature, as well as gubernatorial proclamations and annual messages. Governor Clinton apparently used this book to record his official gubernatorial correspondence concerning legislative and judicial matters; the volume breaks off after Clinton retired from office in 1795 and resumes in 1802 following his return to office.

Summary

Most of the documents in this series were created by Major General Benedict Arnold during the Revolutionary War to supply information to the British Army concerning the conditions, personnel, and ordnance of the American fortifications at West Point, New York. Types of information include disposition of troops and artillery pieces in case of alarm; ordnance reports in different forts, redoubts, and batteries; report of the fortification conditions; and estimates and actually numbers of men necessary to fortify the works.

This series from the Comptroller's Office consists of an inventory for documents contained in "sundry boxes deposited in the upper loft of the State Hall". The documents range in date from Revolutionary War to the 1820's. and include accounts of/for: Governors; Commissioner of Conspiracies; army provisions; War of 1812 expenditures; roads and bridges; building the Capitol and State Hall; wolf bounties; and for building and maintaining Auburn Prison.

Series contains oversized parchment rolls that were filed in twenty-one Chancery cases. Document types include bill of complaint, answer, replication, Master's report, return of inquest, order, and decree. There are no complete case files.

Series is closed to research. All documents are tightly rolled, and many are seriously damaged by exposure to water, mold, vermin, and dirt. Several documents are partly or wholly illegible.

This series consists of letters patent to William Basset for lot 95 in the Township of Homer, Montgomery County. One hundred acres in the southeast corner is reserved to the state, and five of every one hundred acres is to be reserved for highways. The patent was issued with the condition that the settlement is made on the tract within seven years.

W. Averell Harriman's single term as governor represents the only interlude during the period from 1943-1973 in which the Democratic Party held the governorship. Harriman's central subject and correspondence files document the governor's efforts to introduce new programs in the areas of mental health, aging, poverty relief, civil rights, consumer affairs, housing, highways, and aid to education. The records also document the governor's involvement in national politics, especially during the 1956 presidential election.

These survey maps were made for landholders, for partitioning of land, and for disposition of as yet unappropriated lands. Most maps depict areas of eastern upstate New York; some show lands bordering on or within Vermont. The maps generally provide: name, location, or number of the town, tract, patent, or Indian reservation surveyed; lot boundaries and dimensions; lot numbers; names of landholders (sometimes); waterways; and the number of acres in area surveyed (sometimes).
