This series consists of hand-drawn cross sectional diagrams produced to determine conditions and needed improvements to the Erie Canal. The diagrams show conditions of the canal bed and riparian decay in portions of the western division of the canal, beginning at Lock 52 at the Wayne County line and ending at the Black Rock Guard Lock. Depicted are the water level, condition of the canal bottom, and the proposed improvement configuration.

The American Super-Power Corporation submitted these exhibit maps and drawings to the Water Power Commission as part of a license application for a St. Lawrence River water power project. Action on this application was suspended in 1927 and superseded in 1930 by the creation of the St. Lawrence River Power Development Commission. Records include general maps, development maps, profile of the St. Lawrence River, views of power house, maps of proposed transmission lines, and land ownership maps.

Consisting mostly of maps, drawings, specifications, and related material, these plans show proposed work for which contracts were let during the "Nine Million Dollar Improvement" of the Erie and Oswego canals. In addition to particulars of a job site (elevations, structures, proposed improvements), the maps sometimes show boundaries of state-owned property, type of business (store, barber, mill, etc.), and name of businesses or property owners.
