- The series consists primarily of original correspondence sent to the New York State Defense Council regarding service in the U.S. Public Service Reserve, and copies of responses sent to the applicants. Also included are data on inductions and labor needs, a few supply invoices, and publicity material.

- This series contains receipted invoices for expenses of the Board of Regents. Most items billed are for books, supplies, and labor for the New York State Library for which the Regents were appointed Trustees in 1844. Some invoices are for expenses such as staff travel costs to the Regents' annual meetings and to visits to New York colleges. Some volumes are burned and fragile.

- A proposed State Prison at Albany was authorized to be built under Chapter 30 of the Laws of 1796. A Board of Commissioners was appointed, which was authorized to purchase a lot not exceeding four acres, and a number of the records concern the controversy over the purchase of that land. It was also authorized to submit warrants for the cost of building the state prison to the Treasurer, and these warrants were passed on by the Comptroller.

- This series documents the articles and quantity of items shipped using the Auburn and Syracuse Railroad Company. Each bill is signed by the superintendent of the railroad company and includes the toll that was charged for shipment. Bills were submitted to the Comptroller in accordance with a law of 1834 incorporating the Auburn and Syracuse Railroad Company and requiring it to pay canal tolls on freight it carried and to submit statements thereof to the Comptroller.

- This series consists of correspondence, rent receipts, and repair, improvement, and maintenance bills relating to the rental of escheated property. When the title to property failed from defect or lack of heirs, the land then reverted, or escheated, to the people of the state. The state then appointed temporary administrators, often local judges, to supervise the rental and maintenance of the property until possible heirs could be identified, or other disposition of the land.
