Summary
Chapter 270 of the Laws of 1846 authorized a suitable armory or place of deposit for the safekeeping of arms and camp equipment within the bounds of each military regiment. This series consists of four sheets of ink drawings, with few pencil annotations, and an architect watercolor design of floor plans and sections for an unnamed New York State Arsenal, presumably in New York City.

Several items pertaining to subsequent additions and alterations are also included.

This diagram of the New York State Legislative Assembly includes of a floor plan of the assembly chamber with seating chart listing names of assembly members and counties they represented and of facilities such as the cloak room, library, post office, clerk's room, superimposed with rosters of the assembly committees; and names and titles of assembly staff. Also shown are the locations of the desks of newspaper reporters, with titles of the respective newspapers for which they worked.

Building plans and drawings for the New York State Idiot Asylum

Summary
An 1851 law provided for the state to undertake the care and teaching of "idiots" (the contemporary term for people with certain developmental disabilities). The New York State Asylum for Idiots, with a capacity for 100 residents, was completed on August 10, 1855. The series consists of 19th century watercolor renderings and pencil and ink drawings of the original building. The asylum was the first public facility in the nation for the care and treatment of persons with mental retardation.

Summary
These disbound volumes contain photographs and lithographs of state charitable institutions such as asylums, hospitals, dispensaries and orphanages. Images are mostly of building exterior views, with occasional floor plans and interior views. Most are captioned with the name and location of the institution. These photographs may have been used in reports required by the State Legislature for the Board of Charities to provide recommendations for improvements to charitable institutions in 1867 and 1873.
