This series contains the written drafts and publications of New York State Archaeologist Noah T. Clarke on Indian tribes in New York. In addition to Clarke's works, there are a number of related pamphlets, articles, bibliographies, and publications from other individuals and organizations within each folder. Some folders contain correspondence in which Clarke responds to questions about Indians. The subject matter of the material relates to tribes, songs, traditions, reservations, and education.

This series consists of a card file index to part of Series B0561, State Museum Director's, State Geologist's, and State Paleontologist's Correspondence Files. The cards, which provide correspondent's name, date of correspondence, and place where correspondence originated, predominantly index correspondence between James Hall and other geologists and paleontologists during Hall's lengthy career with the State Museum and other institutions. The index is incomplete and should be used with caution.

Summary
This series contains correspondence files of the Director of the State Museum, State Geologist, and State Paleontologist with such entities as scientists within and without New York State, museums and institutions of science or higher learning, the Board of Regents, private citizens, the Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.), and Museum staff. Until 1925, the Director also held the position of State Geologist. Until 1894 and from 1904 to 1925, he also served as State Paleontologist.
