This series consists of hospital records of Willard State Hospital employees who were treated there for physical ailments. Records include narrative descriptions of illnesses and treatments; instructions to nurses; laboratory test results; temperature charts; ward notes on patients' conditions and activities; and x-rays. At least one record is included for an employee's family member. Records are restricted.

Each entry typically records date, number, name, and area of the body x-rayed. Some volumes contain only lists of patients to be x-rayed and the dates of scheduled appointments. The volumes may have been created to track the status of patients who had received x-ray treatment, possibly for followup.

With the declaration of World War I, the State Department of Health placed its organization and resources at the disposal of the New York State Defense Council and the Adjutant General's Office. This series consists of correspondence, memoranda, lists and reports, census data, and some bulletins and newspaper clippings on work undertaken by the Council to inventory and apply the state's medical resources to aid troop mobilization and the casualties of war.
