- The Civilian Defense Driver Corps was formed to train instructors in emergency driving techniques in order to provide civil defense organizations with drivers capable of transporting essential supplies, evacuating children, or ferrying civil defense units. - As part of its duty to promote and ensure the efficient use of transportation resources, the War Transportation Committee (WTC) strictly limited school bus purchases and reviewed school bus usage to ensure that buses were employed according to regulations.
