- This series contains general administrative records of the Military Training Commission, including enrollments of boys, related correspondence, and documentation of cooperation with federal efforts to increase the labor pool of farm workers which had been depleted by service in World War I. Also included are manuals for physical training, health, athletics, and citizenship (e.g. standards of discipline and deportment); reports on the Farm Cadet Corps; and correspondence and administrative records of the Commission Secretary.

Summary
- The series consists primarily of original correspondence sent to the New York State Defense Council regarding service in the U.S. Public Service Reserve, and copies of responses sent to the applicants. The state U.S. Public Service Reserve worked in cooperation with the New York State Defense Council to recruit men to fill needs of ship building yards and for other services. Also included are data on inductions and labor needs, a few supply invoices, and publicity material.

Summary
- Military training of elementary and secondary school boys was administered by the Military Training Commission's Bureau of Technical Military Training. This series consists primarily of weekly training reports, but also includes annual reports, special orders, and correspondence. Also included is information on special issues faced by the commissionsuch as: non-compliance, attempted enforcement of drilling, efforts to discipline delinquent youth; renting of drill halls; and eliminating military drill in schools which provided similar physical training.

- This series consists of 16mm negative microfilm of card files that were apparently part of the process to award bonus payments to New Yorkers for military service in the United States armed forces during World War I. - This series documents payment to State Engineer and Surveyor employees for the differential between their military pay and their state salaries, and mostly consists of monthly payrolls providing: name; state title; military rank; monthly state salary; monthly military pay; amount due from state; and governor's approval number. These payments were made pursuant to a law stipulating that state employees would not lose any of their employment privileges due to absence in military service during World War I.

- This series consists primarily of carbon copies of outgoing correspondence - along with smaller amounts of incoming original letters - sent among the New York State Defense Council and other state agencies associated with emergency war efforts, notably the Adjutant General's office, Department of Health, and Commission on Highways. The correspondence generally deals with council activities, the coordination of efforts among agencies, and wartime issues and regulations.

- This document is an original typed resolution issued by both houses of the New York State Legislature upon the return of the 332nd Infantry Regiment (part of the 83rd Division) of the American Expeditionary Force from the Italian front in World War I. The resolution was issued to recognize the "conspicuous services and devotion to duty" for which the 332nd Regiment was decorated by the Italian government upon its return to New York in 1919.

- This series consists of bound special orders issued by the Adjutant General and commanding officers of specific military units (usually divisions). Unlike general orders, which deal with the State's military system as a whole, special orders deal with specific units and individuals. The orders in this series also reflect the activities of State Militia, volunteer and National Guard units during the Civil War, Spanish-American War, the Mexican Border Campaign, World War I, World War II, and various catastrophes and disturbances.

- This series consists of bound volumes of bimonthly muster rolls registering officers and enlisted men from New York National Guard units that served in the U.S. Army during World War I. - With the declaration of World War I, the State Department of Health placed its organization and resources at the disposal of the New York State Defense Council and the Adjutant General's Office.
