Summary
Grant funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities allowed State Archives staff to undertake a preservation project by which duplicate negatives and contact prints were created for most of the negatives in Series 14297. This series consists of 5,206 positive contact prints made from duplicate negatives in Series 14297, Conservation Department Photographic Prints and Negatives, and functions as a visual index to that series.

Verplanck Colvin maps of the Adirondack wilderness

Summary
Verplanck Colvin and his field assistants created this series using the field notes they compiled during their survey of the Adirondack wilderness of New York. The majority of the maps are topographical or cadastral maps and typically show elements of the natural and built environment (such as lakes, rivers, ponds, mountains, roads, and railroads) as well as names of property owners, lot numbers, and pertinent landmarks used in land surveying.

Forest, Fish and Game Commission glass plate negatives of logging and lumbering

Summary
This series consists of 23 glass plate negatives depicting activities and machinery associated with logging and lumbering, particularly in the Adirondack Mountain region. Most if not all of the images appear to have been duplicated from unknown publications, possibly Forest, Fish and Game Commission annual reports.

The series consists of glass plate and film negatives and photographic prints compiled by the Forest, Fish and Game Commission, the Conservation Commission, and the Conservation Department. They illustrate activities of these predecessors of the Department of Environmental Conservation. The images document fish and game control; forest management and conservation; protecting the wilderness; maintaining historic sites and recreational areas; and wide-ranging locations and activities.
