Documents identify the case name, location, and type of court session. The subpoenas identify records requested and specify the time and place the records must be delivered. The summonses contain the defendants' names, a copy of the plaintiff's complaint which outlines the reasons for filing suit, and length of time allotted defendants to answer plaintiff's complaint.

This series contains precepts and precipes from the Supreme Court of Judicature. The precept is a writ commanding a sheriff to arrest a judgment debtor and imprison him until he pays the costs of an action for which he has been taxed and has refused to pay. Precipes are instructions to a court clerk to make out a writ. These are short statements of the title of a cause, kind of writ required, and the form of action.

This fragmentary series consists of registers of returns of writs issued by the court and returned by sheriffs to circuit courts in various upstate counties. The returns are for writs of capias ad respondendum, by which defendants were arrested and held for appearance in court; for writs of summons, by which corporations were summoned to appear; and for the various writs of execution issued subsequent to a final judgment (the writs of fieri facias, capias ad satisfaciendum, and habere facias possessionem).
