- This series contains forms submitted to the State Board of Charities by poorhouse officials from most counties in the state. Forms provide information regarding children transferred from poorhouses to orphanages, apprenticeships, or families willing to act as guardians. "General Inquiry" forms provide aggregate statistics for each institution. "Personal Inquiry" forms record data for each child placed outside an institution: name; sex; age; if native or foreign born; if orphan; physical health, occupation, and status in current living situation.

Institution inspection reports include the institution's name, inmate types, facility condition and maintenance. Reports on paupers receiving state aid include names of institutions visited; number of paupers admitted with state funding, discharged or died; and financial savings due to discharges. The alien paupers reports include pauper's name; age; time in U.S.; marital status; residence of relatives; physical and mental condition; and prospects for self-sufficiency.
