Abandoned children of slaves were to be supported at the state's expense by the local overseers of the poor. This series contains accounts of expenses of overseers of the poor for the maintenance of children of slaves. The accounts include the name of the town and county; names of overseers of the poor; name of master; name and birth date of child; time period for which child was maintained; amount spent and date.

This series contains administrative records (1769-1886) including Record of Strays for Cortlandt Manor (1769-1886) and Record of Negro Children Born of Slaves After 1799 (1803-1821); Manumissions of Slaves in the Town of Yorktown (1794-1825); court records (1867-1944); election records (1799-1956); town board minutes (1862-1939); school district records (1812-1956); and tax assessment rolls (1817-1916).

This series consists of wills, grants of administration, and (prior to ca. 1710) inventories and accounts of decedent estates. These documents were recorded and maintained by New York Colony's Prerogative Court and then by the State Court of Probates. Many of the wills were made by widows; several executors were women; some wills bequeathed slaves; and Dutch wills sometimes had English translations. Volumes before 1700 also include other records such as governor, council, and criminal proceedings; marriage licenses, and coroner's inquests.

Abandoned children of slaves were to be supported at the state's expense by the local overseers of the poor. This series consists of a warrant to pay the Overseers of the Poor of the Town of Mamaroneck for the support and maintenance of children born of slaves and abandoned by their respective masters, as well as a signed statement that the money was received by the overseer.
