The chronological arrangement suggests the maps were brought together because they show changes made to the state highway system as routes were corrected or new construction on the system was proposed, perhaps in response to aid formulas for highway development.

This series consists of maps that were apparently used to illustrate transportation planning in diverse areas of the state. Two of the maps are county print maps, color annotated to show what appear to be planning districts in Monroe and Westchester counties. A third map is a laminated published color map of the New York City Subway system, with a separate printed note block affixed giving the operating status of various subway lines.

This series consists of consents of the county treasurer and county judge to the Board of Supervisors for purchase of lands; agreements for purchase of land for improved highways; receipts and miscellaneous documents. Counties represented include Orange, Jefferson, Dutchess, Montgomery, and Putnam. There are also orders and reports of commissioners of appraisal in the case of Orange County vs. Thaddeus S. Durland and others, concerning a dispute over appraised value of lands to be taken for highway improvement.

Maps show right of way, courses and distances, names of property owners, property lines; and a detailed description of the property. Also included are tables of estimated land value which include name, number, and location of highway; map or parcel number; name of owner; acreage; assessed value per acre and total value.
