The series documents the taking of real property for the construction of the Ashokan Reservoir, starting in 1907. Microfilmed records include transcripts of Ashokan Reservoir awards including records of claims of Ulster County property holders against New York City for damage incurred through the construction of the reservoir; and records of the New York City Board of Water Supply, including court orders and recorded orders of special terms of the New York State Supreme Court in the matter of New York City's land claims for reservoir purposes.

This series consists of a journal of work activities kept by staff at Forestport, a workshop that operated and repaired reservoirs and feeder canals in the Adirondacks. This record of maintenance activities is particularly useful in understanding and interpreting the historic operations of the reservoirs and waterways. Sites at which work is recorded include the Black River; Nine Mile feeders; Hinckley and Sand Lake dams; Woodhull Lake; North Lake; Trenton Falls; and Boonville.

This series was created by the Canal Corporation of the Thruway Authority to establish state property boundaries adjacent to the Northern and Southern Reservoir Systems. Most maps relate to either the Northern or Southern Reservoir System in whole or part; some relate to the entire reservoir system, and others relate to feeders and other reservoirs.
