Summary
This series consists of correspondence, newspaper clippings, notes, reports, surveys, well logs, and maps mostly relating to oil and natural gas location and production in New York State. Most of the files were created by two Geological Survey geologists whose specialties were "economic geology." Included is information on the identification and location of oil and natural gas fields; commercial development; assessments and production. The records also document the dissemination of information to oil and natural gas firms, other scientists, and landowners.

This series consists of U. S. Bureau of Mines' statements summarizing statistical and economic surveys of crude petroleum and refined petroleum products. The statements include narratives on daily production output and demand for crude petroleum, daily barrels of refined product, the price index for petroleum and related products, and crude oil capacity; comparative analysis of supply and demand of fuel oils; and tables on production and stocks.

This series consists primarily of press releases, but also includes limitations orders, certificates and directives, preference ratings and conservation orders, and hearing testimony and statements issued by the Office of Petroleum Coordinator for the National Defense. The press releases discuss appointments to subcommittees and industry district committees, progress on activities to aid in transport, and weekly reports on inventories.
