Summary
- This series consists of transcripts and accompanying exhibits produced during tenured teacher disciplinary hearings. These case files often include graphic testimony about teacher performance, classroom situations, and education administration (particularly teacher supervision and efforts to identify and remove incompetent teachers). Transcripts provide information about workplace relations and working conditions, and on "social" labor relations in an adversarial context. Exhibits may include lesson plans, observation reports, and audio or videotapes of teachers in the classroom.

- Access to certain records in this series is restricted pursuant to New York State Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) section 87.2(a), relating to records specifically exempted from disclosure by state or federal statute: State Education Law section 2-d (unauthorized release of personally identifiable information); federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), 20 USC section 1232g; and State Civil Rights Law section 50-B (right of privacy for victims of sex offenses). Access to certain records is also restricted pursuant to FOIL sections 87.2(b) (unwarranted invasion of personal privacy) and 87.2(g) (inter- and intra-agency materials which are not statistical or factual tabulations or data, instructions to staff that affect the public, or final agency policy or determinations).

Summary
- Any State employee disciplined by a penalty of demotion, dismissal, suspension without pay, or fine can appeal the determination to the Civil Service Commission or the courts. This series consists of case files of reports to the Commission usually accompanied by a hearing transcript. Reports contain a history of the appeal, charges, appellant's written answer to the charges, analysis of the record of appeal, facts of the case and conclusions determined by the Civil Service hearing officer, and his recommendations.

- This series consists of summary decisions reached by American Arbitration Association arbitrators in all appealed disciplinary cases (until 1986) and for all non-CSEA cases (since 1986). Individual case files usually contain notices of disciplinary action, appeal forms, arguments submitted by the opposing parties, hearing decisions and penalties imposed, if any.
