This series documents the rules and regulations that the Conservation Department forwarded to the Department of State for publication. The bulk of the material consists of routine correspondence between the Conservation Department and the Department of State and the text of the rules and regulations adopted, revised, or repealed; in some instances, internal memorandums concerning the content of draft regulations and certificates citing the statute that gave the department the authority to issue a given regulation are also present.

The series consists of maps produced by the Adirondack Park Agency for the Adirondack Park Land Use and Development Plan of 1973. The maps consist of a printed base map of each county (sometimes done in sections) prepared by the Office of Planning Services, with an attached plastic film overlay in colors representing the various land use classifications. Additionally, wilderness areas and "primitive areas" are represented.

This series consists of files created by the Deputy Commissioner for Environmental Management and relate to the state's response to federal water-quality legislation. The files which contain information gathered at meetings of the Great Lakes Basin Commission and other federal-state water-protection bodies, help to document the department's role in safeguarding drinking water supplies, coastal and estuarine areas, and the Hudson River. Other files concern efforts to protect the Catskill and Adirondacks Forest Preserves.
