This series consists of chronological correspondence files compiled and maintained by the office of the Executive Director of the Adirondack Park Agency (APA). Within the series there are files created directly by the executive director and files created by the agency's chief legal counsel. Records consist predominantly of copies of outgoing correspondence and attachments directed to other state agencies, local and regional environmental groups, and private citizens as well as copies of memoranda addressed to agency members and staff. Also included are meeting materials, agendas, and minutes; legal documents; agency resolutions; budget materials; draft reports and studies; annual reports; proposed legislation and related memoranda; executive orders; permit and variance applications, notices of public hearings, variance and project review minutes, proposed Adirondack Park Land Use and Development Plan map amendments, and agency orders; and clippings of newspaper and journal articles.

This series consists of resumes summarizing transactions, recommendations, and appraisals of lands for potential purchase for new state parks. Once approved, the State Comptroller could issue bonds or warrants for payment. Records include a memorandum outlining the procedure to acquire new state park land; information on location and ownership of land considered for purchase; purchase cost; description; estimated valuations; recommended purchase price; types of timber on the land; and a procedural statement on the valuation of forest lands and approval date.

Correspondence and maps relating to tax searches and correction of property descriptions

Summary
The State Comptroller's Office compiled these records in the process of performing tax searches on parcels of private land proposed for purchase as additions to the Adirondack Forest Preserve. A smaller quantity of records of these same types were submitted to the comptroller's office by supervisors of local tax districts for the purpose of correcting "imperfect" property descriptions.

The Economic Services Unit provides oversight relating to economic development planning in the Adirondack Park, as well as economic and fiscal impact analysis. The records document the Economic Affairs Committee's function in assisting to develop the agency's policies toward economic developers and the business community. Records include reports made by the committee to the full agency and other documents referenced in the agency and committee minutes.
The series consists of correspondence, appraisal and survey descriptions, and a few maps relating to proposed land purchases for expansion of the Adirondack Forest Preserve. The files track activities surrounding purchase of land for the Forest Preserve from the purchase proposals made to the Board of Commissioners of the Land Office by the Conservation Department (earlier the Conservation Commission) to the Board's approval of the purchase.
