This series contains correspondence files of the Director of the State Museum, State Geologist, and State Paleontologist with such entities as scientists within and without New York State, museums and institutions of science or higher learning, the Board of Regents, private citizens, the Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.), and Museum staff. Until 1925, the Director also held the position of State Geologist. Until 1894 and from 1904 to 1925, he also served as State Paleontologist.

The Entomological Society of Albany, a private society to further the interests and activities of professional and amateur entomologist, included the state entomologist and other members of the State Museum staff. These records include the Society's constitution, membership lists, and minutes of meetings. Meeting minutes generally indicate the number of members present, speakers or exhibitors and their topics, and the transaction of society business.

These volumes contain lists of scientific articles on entomology, largely on harmful insects. One volume contains citations to articles and reports dating ca. 1825-1897 arranged by subject (usually name of insect). The other volume contains a chronologically arranged bibliography dating ca. 1847-1910 (most after 1880).

Subjects include identification of insect specimens; insect control; use, application, and effect of insecticides; the European Corn Borer; insect classification; State Museum exhibits; nomenclature; and quarantines of agricultural products. Also included are files of Robert Douglas Glasgow which predate his tenure as State Entomologist.
