This series consists of various types of printed forms, reports, incoming correspondence, lists of men who were mustered into the service of the United States government, and an assortment of printed material submitted by local officials to the Bureau of Military Statistics between 1863 and 1868. The records were initially compiled pursuant to Chapter 113, Laws of 1863 which required the Bureau of Military Statistics, in addition to other duties, to "collect and preserve...an account of the aid afforded by the several towns and counties of this state." In 1865 (Chapter 690), the Legislature further specified the type of information which the bureau was to collect.

This volume contains the statistical results of the 1864 enrollment as mandated by legislation of 1862. This enrollment pertains to men eligible for service in the state's National Guard, as opposed to the enrollment of 1862, which recorded men eligible to be drafted into the federal service. This series consists of printed forms submitted by the clerks of county boards of supervisors to the Adjutant General's Office detailing the number of men liable to perform military duty. County assessment rolls were used to produce the returns which contain the following information: name of town or number of ward; number of persons enrolled belonging to fire companies; number of persons liable to perform military duty not belonging to military or fire companies; total number enrolled; and remarks.

Enrollment lists for the 14th District, New York State

Summary
This series consists of printed lists (on rag paper) of men enrolled, and therefore liable to military duty, residing in the 14th Enrollment District of the State, apparently comprising Albany and Schoharie counties. The lists provide the names of all men between the ages of twenty and forty-five who were subject to the draft. The lists consist of two parts: the lists of names, and a prefatory statement at the top of each list.
