These records document the acquisition, accession, loan, conservation, and use of the artwork collection which was assembled under the direction of Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller during the construction of the Empire State Plaza. The artwork collection includes paintings, sculptures, and mixed media forms of art.

The Council of the Arts slides document the exhibit entitled, "Main Street: The Heart of an American Town" (1974). These slides depict historical districts, historic public buildings, and homes in upstate New York. Other slides depict council-sponsored events. The series also contains one 16mm color film labeled "Fine Arts Workshop, 1967" produced by Willard Goodman.

Summary
This series contains select video recordings of the Governor's Arts Awards from 1985-2002. These edited videos were produced by commercial, private, and affiliate cable channels and were possibly broadcast on PBS and cable stations statewide. This series also includes PSA's produced by the New York State Council on the Arts, most likely part of an "I Love New York - Celebrates the Arts" campaign, and one VHS tape of Chelsea Dock, a child prodigy pianist, performing at the Governor's Arts Awards in 2002.
