This volume records names of United States Colored Troops who filed claims against the United States for back pay and bounties for services during the Civil War. Each entry provides the following information: claim number; name; rank; company; regiment; date of enlistment; date discharged; and date claim was filed. Some entries provide the authorization by which the claimant was discharged and a notation whether the claim was settled or rejected. If the claim was settled, the amount is usually provided.

Abstracts of muster rolls for colored enlisted men unassigned to any unit during the Civil War

This series consists of abstracts partially describing the military service of "colored" New York enlisted men mustered into service but never assigned to a federal or state unit. "Unassigned" refers to men located at recruiting depots and stations when the federal government ceased recruitment; men permanently assigned duty at these depots and stations; and men who deserted before being assigned to or while en route to their unit. Information includes name, physical description, birth date, occupation, grade, and enlistment data.
