Summary
The Temporary State Commission on the Water Supply Needs of Southeastern New York was created in 1969. Its mandate was to study the future water supply needs of the southeastern portion of the state; the relationship of these needs to the water resources available; alternative methods for constructing, financing, and administering the needed water supply facilities; and to make recommendations on how to meet future water needs. Records consist of meeting summaries, reports, studies, publications, public hearing transcripts, and correspondence.

Counties represented include Orange, Jefferson, Dutchess, Montgomery, and Putnam. There are also orders and reports of commissioners of appraisal in the case of Orange County vs. Thaddeus S. Durland and others, concerning a dispute over appraised value of lands to be taken for highway improvement.

This series consists of 34 annotated county maps showing boundaries of fire districts and fire protection districts, as well as related correspondence. These maps were used by the commission to assist in the development and revision of laws relating to volunteer firemen and to fire prevention and protection in municipalities and the state. Records also include lists by county indicating fire districts for each town and their establishment date, as well as correspondence with county fire coordinators, requesting action on the boundary maps and providing instructions.
