This series consists of copies of incoming correspondence directed to Governor Edwin D. Morgan, originally found in Inspector General's administrative correspondence files. The Executive Chamber probably forwarded these copies to the Inspector General in order to keep him informed of current events or because they dealt with matters which required his attention. One of the Inspector General's major responsibilities was to attend to the organization of the militia, which is what the bulk of this correspondence is concerned with.

Summary
This series consists of printed forms submitted by the clerks of county boards of supervisors to the Adjutant General's Office detailing the number of men liable to perform military duty. County assessment rolls were used to produce the returns which contain the following information: name of town or number of ward; number of persons enrolled belonging to fire companies; number of persons liable to perform military duty not belonging to military or fire companies; total number enrolled; and remarks.

War of 1812 abstracts of payrolls for New York State Militia ("payroll cards")

This series consists of payroll cards for soldiers of the New York militia who served in the War of 1812. Each card lists: name; rank; "organization" in which the soldier served, including the specific company name; amount paid; dates paid; and "remarks," which generally provides the payroll and/or voucher number that corresponds to the soldier and other information on his military service.

This series consists of payrolls transcripts kept by the regional paymasters of the United States Army. They record payments to regiments in the New York State Militia, Volunteers and Sea Fencibles (soldiers responsible for the defense of the Port of New York) in the War of 1812. Information may include: commanding officer; soldier's name; rank; dates of appointment or enlistment; to what time engaged or enlisted; amount paid in lieu of clothing and traveling expenses; total paid; and remarks.
