Summary
Most of this series consists of letters written to the Comptroller requesting searches of records to confirm individuals' Revolutionary War service. Replies from the controller are not included. Additional material includes bills for repair and storage of small arms; memoranda concerning state military accounts; certificates of employment of clerks in the adjutant general's office; War of 1812 claim number 16,273; and a few claims for the state campaign badge awarded for military service during the Spanish-American War.

The bulk consists of Revolutionary war soldiers claims for services rendered, supplies furnished, or damages incurred. Other topics include: public grievances; mechanical inventions; chambers of commerce; canal construction (including the 1816 for the creation of the Erie Canal); and compensation and transfer of property.

These reports summarize petition arguments and provide State Comptroller's opinions regarding payments claimed or due. Series also contains original petitions, supporting affidavits, and legislation for the assessment and collection of taxes and for the payment of claims. Topics of note include land grants, patents, and claims; relief for widows of soldiers killed in the Revolution; widows' dower rights to confiscated estates of deceased husbands; settlement of debts owed by confiscated estates; and requests for return of or compensation for confiscated estates.
