- This series consists mainly of incoming correspondence directed to Brigadier General Isaac Vanderpoel, Engineer in Chief and Acting Assistant Adjutant-General. The bulk of the correspondence deals with the enrollment of men into the State's National Guard. The majority of the records pertain to routine administrative matters such as requests for enrollment books; appointments of enrolling officers; transmission of enrollment records and lists of names of enrolling officers for regimental districts; and questions concerning specific enrollment procedures.

- This series consists of printed lists (on rag paper) of men enrolled, and therefore liable to military duty, residing in the 14th Enrollment District of the State, apparently comprising Albany and Schoharie counties. The lists provide the names of all men between the ages of twenty and forty-five who were subject to the draft. The lists consist of two parts: the lists of names, and a prefatory statement at the top of each list.

- This series consists of a small quantity of resignations, submitted by officers resigning their commissions, forwarded to the Adjutant General's Office. The resignation will normally provide the name of the individual resigning, rank, regiment, date, and reason for resignation. The remainder of the series consists of a varied collection of vouchers and receipts which pertain mainly to expenditures incurred by National Guard units after the Civil War.

- This series consists almost entirely of duplicate correspondence and special orders dating between May and August 1861. In addition, there are a few items dating from 1862 and one document dating from 1866. These are mainly copies of bills, vouchers and ordnance inventories. The correspondence in this series deals almost exclusively with the organization and supply of volunteer units raised by the state in response to President Lincoln's call for men in 1861.

- In 1863, the State Legislature mandated that the Bureau of Military Statistics collect and preserve an "authentic sketch of every person from this State who has volunteered into the service of the general government" since April 15, 1861. - The stub books in this series document the issuance of revenue bonds as loans for payment of volunteers in the Civil War. Bonds were issued and redeemable in amounts varying from $1,000 to $10,000, pursuant to Chapters 56 and 325 of the Laws of 1865 and Chapter 209 of the Laws of 1866. Each stub generally provides number of certificate, amount of loan, name of bondholder, date of loan, and signature of comptroller's agent.
