- These survey maps show the proposed route for the Erie Canal was made by James Geddes in 1817. The area mapped extends from "Tonewanta Creek" east to the outlet of Mud Creek in the "Great Cayuga Marsh" (Montezuma). The maps show proposed line of the canal; roads; houses; mills; settlements; streams, ponds, and lakes; steep terrain; swamps and marshes; town and lot lines; and other features adjacent to the canal route.

Entries track the timing of boats in canal locks according to various operations performed (e.g. lower gates shut; boat leaves lower jaws) for locks 58-59 and 62-66. Data is provided for "up boats" and "down boats." Calculations, drawings, and observations as to procedures and operations regarding the lock may also be included.

- This series consists of daily and weekly reports and logs documenting the operation of Barge Canal Lock No.22 (Sylvan Beach). Daily reports contain detailed information on the number of daily lockages including time, direction of lockage, name or number of tugboat, and registration number. Weekly reports summarize the number of lockages, number of freight and pleasure crafts, and water elevations. Station logs include daily temperatures and generator usage while the daily logs note events that occurred at the lock.

Navigation charts are mixed with survey maps perhaps to aid production of charts for additional uncharted canal areas.
