Folders include correspondence, telegrams, and general releases notifying police departments, county sheriffs, and railroad police of the escape and asking for assistance in capture; memorandums describing circumstances of the escape; and reports explaining the escape and capture of the incarcerated individuals.

The four indefinite registers contain the person's name; residence; consecutive number; minimum and maximum sentence terms; date paroled; expiration date of maximum sentence; discharge date; and date of parole violation if applicable. The two determinate or definite registers contain the same information except there is an added notation citing number of days of jail time.

Bulks of the records are from 1876-1891. Gaps exist.

- The prison physician was required to keep records of all incarcerated persons discharged from the prison. These registers for those discharged from Auburn Prison include: inmate name and number; age at entrance; color; nativity; crime; when received and discharged; term; number of previous convictions; married or single; habits; weight when received and discharged; health when received and discharged; and how discharged. The last volume omits weight when discharged and adds mental age; time served; and date convicted.
