- This series contains mostly warrants of survey but includes also a few unrelated legal documents. Colonial governors ordered surveys of all lands for which settlers applied for purchase. The warrants are the governor's orders to the surveyor general to carry out the survey. They provide name of governor; name of surveyor general; for whom land is to be surveyed; acreage and location of land; and date of warrant. The records suffered some burn damage in the 1911 State Capitol fire.

- Legislation establishing county vocational education and extension boards (Laws of 1926, Chapter 505) required that the Commissioner of Education approve courses offered by the boards. These files contain correspondence, memorandums, reports, charts, application forms, and news clippings about programs and services offered by such boards. The latter files contain applications for approval of proposed services giving information about the service, schools served, number of students served, and provider's staff.

- The New York State Soldiers Depot was established to be a place of rest and relief for sick, sounded, furloughed, and discharged New York soldiers during the Civil War.
