- The New York State Soldiers Depot was established to be a place of rest and relief for sick, sounded, furloughed, and discharged New York soldiers during the Civil War. This series includes correspondence, descriptive rolls for individual soldiers, receipts for claims, inventories of the depot's kitchen and dining room, discharge papers, receipts for official records received from the Adjutant-General's Office, certificates of enlistment, matron's reports, list of depot expenditures, receipts for work performed at the depot, and furloughs.

Information provided generally includes: name; rank; whether present or absent at annual muster; date of rank; date and rank of original entry into service; and remarks on any change in status. Each roll also lists names of men gained or lost since the last annual muster, by discharge, promotion, expulsion, transfer, removal, desertion, or death. NOTE: Only Naval Militia muster rolls are available for the period 1942-1954.

- The series consists of a group of clippings, photographs, training circulars, instructions, and maps, dating from the World War I period. The exact source and association of these records is unclear, although they may be from a collection of Franklin W. Ward, who was Adjutant General from 1926 to 1934. They were apparently kept as background files - perhaps for research purposes - to illustrate New York's part in military training (including intelligence training) and the actual fighting.

- This series consists of cards containing military and naval service abstracts and basic personal data for New Yorkers who served in the U.S. Regular Army, Navy, and Marines during the Spanish-American War (1898); Philippine-American War, or "Philippine Insurrection" (1899-1902); and China Relief Expedition against the "Boxer Rebellion" (1900-1901). The cards were procured by the New York Bureau of War Records from the federal government pursuant to Chapter 75 of the Laws of 1919.
