- This series consists of a variety of traffic related forms and paperwork recording activities at a canal lock. Statistics derived from the forms were used for budgeting, planning, and determining staffing patterns. Records include daily reports of passages, boats, and lockages; weekly reports of detained vessels; navigators' reports of obstructions, hazards, or collisions; and violation and incident reports. Reports generally include location, date, climatic data, vessels, operating personnel or individuals involved in incidents, and narrative accounts of incidents.

Of special note are correspondence files documenting the development of the office's bureaucratic structure.

- This series contains original linen plans for Barge Canal System contracts furnished under Chapter 147, Laws of 1903. Cayuga and Seneca contracts, produced later and not included in the original Barge Canal contract list, follow an alphabetical order.

The series consists of 18" x 18" aerial photographs (scale 1:48,000) of Albany, Schenectady, Troy, and the Upper Hudson region taken in April and May, 1963. Roads, bodies of water, plots of land, buildings, and trees are visible on these photographs.

- This series consists of approximately 240 linen maps showing locations of channels, structures, appropriated lands, and terminals of the Erie, Champlain, Oswego, and Cayuga and Seneca Canals, as well as the location of old canals in relation to the Barge Canal System as improved under laws of 1903, 1909, and 1911. The improved canals would become the Barge Canal System. The maps contain information regarding individual structures and appropriated lands not found on other maps of canal lands.

- This series of maps (commonly referred to as "Schillner Maps") depict land along the Erie, Champlain, and Oswego canals acquired by the state. Each map provides detailed information on state owned property, and shows the locations of the 1825 canal alignment and related structures such as locks, slips, dams, bridges, and roads which have since been obliterated. In addition they show municipal boundaries, bodies of water, property lines, names of owners, streets, railroad lines, businesses, and civic landmarks.
