Daily reports contain detailed information on the number of daily lockages including time, direction of lockage, name or number of tugboat, and registration number. Weekly reports summarize the number of lockages, number of freight and pleasure crafts, and water elevations. Station logs include daily temperatures and generator usage while the daily logs note events that occurred at the lock.

It may be part may be an index to Middle Division field books (found in series B0730, Engineer's Field Books Pertaining to the Construction of the State's Canal System). Many references are to the period of the second canal enlargement (so-called "9 Million Improvement") in 1896. There are also references to canal feeders and ancillary canals associated with the canal enlargement of 1835-1841.

- This series consists of discharge data, tables of water levels, survey reports, and other hydrologic data gathered by the Superintendent (later Department) of Public Works to plan for canal improvements and related flood control. During the 1920s responsibility for flood and water control was vested in that office (later the Department of Environmental Conservation assumed the responsibility). This material may also contain the raw data, and a draft copy of an annual or special report.

Most letters are to offices of the Western Division engineer, who had responsibility for its administration and maintenance.
