- This series consists of three documents, all relating to a writ of certiorari (not included) issued from the Supreme Court of Judicature to an unspecified court in Ulster County. These documents include a letter from John Sudam of Kingston requesting that the Supreme Court of Judicature hear an argument on the writ of certiorari, which affected title to the Rochester Patent in an undeclared way; a copy of letters patent for the town of Rochester; and a copy of a deed from trustees of town of Rochester to Cornelius Hoornbeck et al., 1728.

- Most of the documents in this series are notices of joinder in demurrer, in which the plaintiff states that the demurrer will be opposed and the court moved for judgment on the ground that the defendant's demurrer is frivolous. There are also a few special motions for appointment of commissioners to admeasure dower, for stay of proceedings, for issuance of writs of certiorari or mandamus, and other actions. Earlier Geneva motion papers appear to have been lost.

Special orders generally include the name of the requester; the reason for issuing the order; the substance of the order; and occasionally the particulars of the case.

- The State Tax Commission was responsible for formulation of tax policy, interpreting state tax law, clarifying tax requirements, and providing a quasi-judicial forum for resolving taxpayer disputes with the Department of Taxation and Finance. This series consists of the formal decisions of the State Tax Commission. Typically it includes a statement of the issue(s), the findings of fact, and conclusions of law. The microfilm duplicates records in the Archives' paper files and contains 1987 decisions that are not in the paper files.

A law of 1803 allowed the Court to determine and change the form of all orders, decrees, and process it issued. The elimination of or changes in a form is noted through annotations. These annotations often cite the date and the court rule mandating the change.
