These volumes index enrolled decrees and transcribed enrolled decrees of the Court of Chancery (1st Circuit) filed by the court clerk. The indexes include adversarial cases, commenced by complaint, but not non-adversarial cases commenced by petition. The three volumes index the Vice-Chancellor's enrolled decrees that were filed by the Clerk of the Court of Chancery (1st Circuit) in New York City. The volumes contain essentially the same kinds of data, but the third volume is the most complete.

Summary
Seven registers contain summary information about bonds filed in the New York County Clerk's Office, by parties to cases in the Supreme Court of Judicature, prior to July 1, 1847, and after that date in the Supreme Court (New York County). Entries in the earlier registers include the date of filing, surnames of the plaintiff and defendant or the petitioner, and the type of bond filed. Later registers include the full names of the parties, purpose of bond, by whom acknowledged, and the last name of the justice or other officer approving the bond. Bonds were filed by guardians, receivers, trustees, and other agents of the court, and to secure payment of court costs, obtain an injunction or an order of attachment, etc. Bonds were filed by the appellant who obtained a writ of error (before July 1, 1847) or appealed a judgment (after July 1, 1847); if the defendant appealed, his name appears first.
Common rule books contain a record of common rules (or orders) entered by the clerk upon motion by the attorney for the plaintiff or defendant. Rules prior to July 1, 1847, were entered by the clerk of the Supreme Court of Judicature in New York City. Starting July 1, 1847, rules were entered by the clerk of the city and county of New York. Each entry contains the case title, date of rule, and rule granted.

Series contains recorded "indentures," by which judgment creditors assigned to third parties their rights to collect a money payments from judgment debtors. Judgments were recovered in the Superior Court of the City of New York and the Court of Common Pleas for the City and County of New York (before 1896), the Supreme Court (New York County), and other New York City civil courts. Assignments were recorded in the New York County Clerk's Office.

Judgment rolls filed prior to 1848 are in series JN529. Judgment rolls filed after 1847 are retained in the New York County Clerk's Office. Each card contains data fields for plaintiff, defendant, court, filing date, and file reference code.
