- This series contains Indian treaties or deeds of cession and related documents filed by the secretary of state. The native groups involved in the treaties filed in this series were the Oneida, Brothertown, Stockbridge, Cayuga, Mohawk, Seneca, and Onondaga Indians, and the Seven Nations of Canada. The "treaties" generally take the form of a deed of cession from the sachems, chiefs, and warriors of a particular nation or group to the people of the state of New York.

- Mortgages to the state were required to be registered in the Secretary of State's office. This series contains mortgages primarily for lands sold by the state in patents and former Indian reservations. Information includes mortgagor, property description and mortgage terms. Many mortgages were discharged or cancelled. A certificate of payment and cancellation was entered in the margin. Discharges are mostly for lots in the East and West Cayuga Reservations.

- This series consists of maps compiled by the Office of the Secretary of State in its capacity as the general recording office for the government of New York State. The maps depict boundaries between New York and other states such as New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Also included is a plan and profile relating to the Spuyten Duyvil Parkway which lays out the streets, avenues, roads, parkways, public parks, squares and places in the twelfth, twenty-third and twenty-fourth wards of the City of New York".

Grants were made to individuals holding land bounty rights originally issued to commissioned officers and private soldiers who served in New York Continental regiments during the Revolutionary War. Series also includes records of land grants to demobilize British officers and private soldiers who had served in America during the Seven Years' War.

- The first constitution of the State of New York was adopted by the Convention of Representatives of the State of New York at Kingston on April 20, 1777. This draft contains numerous strikeouts, additions, and corrections. At the end are the signatures of Leonard Gansevoort, President Pro Temp., and a certificate by J.V.N. Yates, Secretary of State, dated August 30, 1821, acknowledging receipt of the manuscript by John McKesson. Following is a letter of McKesson, noting sections were missing.

Shown are branches of the Delaware River; several unnamed islands; three points of survey measurements and boundary markers. The report discusses on the conduct of the survey and provides an explanation of the map markings "A" through "C" and the relevant placement of stone boundary markers.

- This series consists of certified transcripts of election returns submitted to the secretary of state by the Kings County Clerk. The transcripts were taken from the official canvasses of the Kings County Board of Canvassers and include tallies of votes cast for each candidate for various state and county offices. The returns also document the vote on a proposed amendment to the state constitution that would allow the governor to appoint a second division of the court of appeals.

- This series includes a manuscript index to Volumes GG and HH of Dutch colonial land patents, and Volume II of Dutch colonial deeds. The index to Volumes GG and HH is arranged by volume and then by first letter of surname of grantee. It lists page number, grantee name, location of patent, and year. The index to Volume II is chronological and lists date, names of grantor and grantee, location of land, and page number. Series also includes manuscript translations of Volumes GG, HH, and II.

Many of the letters are partially faded, and are therefore difficult to read.
