Attached is a copy of the original clearance given by the toll collector, giving name of boat; where from; where bound; nature, quantity, and weight of cargo; miles to travel; tolls due; and total charges.

This series consists of a report to Governor's Commission to Investigate Canal Frauds concerning repairs made to the Chemung Canal Feeder after a break that occurred in the freshet of April 19, 1870. The report charges contractor Jarvis Lord with excessive hiring at unnecessary cost to the state. Attached are copies of depositions, letters, receipts, and statements of labor performed and materials furnished.

Information includes quantity of general merchandise and of particularly commodities going west (sugar, coffee, nails, iron, crockery, oysters); and the quantity of produce going east (pork, beef, cheese, lard, wool, wheat, corn, etc.) from western states and from Canada. The series is fragmentary.
