In March 1940 the Department of Public Works began a two-part Statewide Highway Planning Survey comprised of a Traffic Study and a Road Inventory. Public highway maps for each county were produced as part of the Road Inventory to facilitate the study of highway planning problems. This volume of printed maps was produced from data collected during this survey from 1940-1949. The volume contains maps for all counties except the five counties in New York City.
