The series consists of files documenting the historical records microfilm project (1966-1976); the town origins project (1977); the government archives project (1979-1983); the Mormon microfilm project; and the Glenridge Hospital Project, Schenectady (1985-2003). In addition to these special projects there is information on the return to local governments of local records held by the State Archives (1986-1995).

Records include draft clearance and disposition lists and schedules, copies of lists and schedules returned by Education Department counsel and other reviewing agencies, and an official set of all local government records disposition lists.
