Most of the images reveal the routine activities that the governors' photographers were assigned to photograph. Records tend to be arranged by gubernatorial administration for the following governors: Thomas E. Dewey, W. Averell Harriman, Nelson A. Rockefeller, Malcolm Wilson, Hugh L. Carey, Mario M. - In 1969, Governor Nelson Rockefeller and the Board of Regents created the New York State Commission on the Quality, Cost, and Financing of Elementary and Secondary Education. School financing recommendations made by the commission, which would have increased school taxes in upstate districts and reduced school expenditures in a significant number of downstate suburban districts, were never implemented. These files were generated by staff of the governor's office in the course of researching and making recommendations regarding state aid for education.

- This series consists of investigation and interview files of the Special Commission on Attica (chaired by Robert B. McKay and known as the "McKay Commission"). The commission investigated the Attica Correctional Facility riot of 1971. Resulting records include personal interview sheets or transcripts; depositions and preliminary statements; copies of facility logs and other administrative records; lists of dead and wounded; draft commission reports; photographs; documents regarding negotiations with rioters; and documents confiscated from inmates.
