This series consists of incoming and outgoing correspondence, memorandums, blueprints, plans, tracings, drawings, bridge measurements, computations, inspection notes, and cost estimates relating to the construction of highway bridges throughout New York State. Most documents date between 1921 and 1923. About a third of the correspondence discusses routine administrative matters. The remaining files deal with technical aspects of bridge construction and contain information on bridge designs and specifications.

This series consists of state and county highway maps showing completed, improved, and proposed roads. Most are official published county highway maps, annotated to show state and county highway systems corrected to 1936. Also included are publications and correspondence on special highway projects in New York City, dating from the 1940s and early 1950s, and a number of World War II maps indicating military priority highways.

The series consists of annotated U.S. Geological Survey maps bound into two volumes. The printed topographic sheets are annotated with black and red lines representing some aspect of highway planning or maintenance. The arrangement is apparently by geographic quadrangle, with successive maps depicting adjacent areas ranging from west to east across the state. Volume 1 shows counties in western and central New York; volume 2 shows counties in eastern and southern New York.

Summary
These photographs show damaged roads in eastern upstate New York; machinery used to construct or resurface roads; work in progress; roads before and after repair; various road surfaces like macadam or concrete; road signs; and automobile accidents. These were probably created by the Albany division office to plan highway projects for the division, to examine work done on the highways, and to inspect all state and county highways and report on them to the State Highway Commission when requested.
