Summary
- These proceedings, resolutions, maps, surveyors' reports, and legislative acts filed with the Department of State document the alteration or establishment of town boundaries relating to establishment of new towns; annexation of parts of towns to other towns; and settlement of boundary disputes between towns. Pursuant to legislation, county boards of supervisors (except for New York County) were authorized to divide or alter boundaries of towns within their counties and establish and define boundary lines between towns.

- The Contracting Board let contracts on behalf of the state for canal work. This series consists of transcriptions of proposals to complete Black River Canal reservoirs. Information includes contractor's name, town and county; schedule of projected costs for various tasks and materials; amount of bond given by contractor for payment of laborers' wages; names of persons signing bond; city and date of signing of proposal; and notarization.

- Chapter 329 of the Laws of 1854 appropriated $2,250,000 in state funds to provide for the enlargement of the Erie, Oswego, Cayuga, and Seneca Canals; the completion of the Black River and Genesee Valley Canals; and the enlargement of the locks of the Champlain Canal. This series consists of one volume of abstracts of contract proposals pertaining to the enlargement of the Erie Canal and one volume pertaining to the enlargement of the locks of the Champlain Canal.

- The series consists of maps, assessments, and certifications prepared for draining swampland near the village of Liverpool. Land Office commissioners were responsible for appraising marsh lots leased to the salt manufacturers in the town of Salina. Appraisals include probable expenses and benefits of draining the lands. Tract map shows farm, pasture, and marsh lot boundaries, and route of road and drain line. Newspaper clipping has notice of assessment and comptrollers statement provides information on sale of lots in the swamp.
