Books of general entries contain the office copies of documents issued by colonial governors Richard Nicolls, Francis Lovelace, and Sir Edmund Andros. They reveal the governors' efforts to enact the policies of the British monarchy, and provide insight into seventeenth century society, commerce, industry, agriculture, law, and land development. Documents include orders, warrants, instructions, and letters to local officials, as well as travel passes, commercial licenses, marriage licenses, and land records.
