- This series consists of two large maps depicting the buildings and grounds of the Craig Colony for Epileptics as it appeared in 1895. The larger of the two maps depicts the entire 1500 acre farm including clearings, woods, creeks, town lines, railroads, and existing Shaker buildings. The smaller map shows a 587 acre section of the property including existing Shaker buildings.

"How restrained" includes "day room," "infirmary," "sick ward," and "isolation."

Each register provides admission number, name, admission and discharge dates, county, reimbursing or indigent, sex, age, occupation, age at onset, marital status, nativity of patient and parents, heredity, number in patient's fraternity, birth order, prenatal influences, probable cause, character and frequency of attack, seizures when awake or asleep, nature of aura, mental state, physical examination, paralysis, and results.

- This series consists of several hundred black and white photographs illustrating conditions at custodial institutions for the mentally deficient in New York and other states. The photographs were gathered by the Commission to Investigate Provision for the Mentally Deficient to illustrate its final report. The photographs show a wide range of views including building exteriors, interior facilities and rooms, and patients working, eating, in classroom activities, and at play or rest.

The records filmed chronicle all services provided to clients, including administrative, legal, and programmatic. - Craig Colony for Epileptics was established in 1894 to offer residential, educational, occupational, and medical facilities for epileptics. It remained an institution for epileptics until 1967. Although the format and content of these meeting minutes changes over time, typical content includes lists of employees appointed, promoted, resigned, and dismissed; lists of patients admitted and discharged; patient census statistics; resolutions; transcripts of correspondence; and statistical and narrative reports on accidents, escapes, and other matters of special note.

The majority of the forms are from New York institutions; most were collected from the Craig Colony for Epileptics. Forms include admission applications; personal and family histories; medical and dental examination charts; testing and other school charts; diagnosis forms; institutional reporting forms; death records; and agreements between guardians and institutions relating to custody of inmates.

- Officers of state institutions were required to submit itemized accounts of monthly receipts and expenditures to the Comptroller. This series contains a report, which includes a transmittal letter to the supervisor of state charities; a bank statement; statements of personal service, food, fuel, light, power, water, clothing, furniture, household supplies, general administration, traveling expenses, and building repairs; an abstract of vouchers submitted; and a statement of home and farm products of the institution, with product values.
