Scope and Content Note
This series consists of the subject and correspondence files of the general managers of the Roosevelt Island Development Corporation (RIDC) and its successor, Safe Affordable Housing for Everyone, Inc. (SAHE). These organizations were responsible for the development, operation, maintenance, management, and overall supervision of the commercial, civic, cultural, and recreational facilities on Roosevelt Island. They also supervised the operation of the island's transportation system, garage, and security force.
The general manager was responsible for authorizing and negotiating leases for commercial space on Roosevelt Island, executing contracts, and supervising the day to day operations of RIDC and SAHE. These files contain general administrative materials such as parking complaints, event permits, budgetary records, and financial records. The files also include records related to core community development functions: transportation and sanitation solutions; maintenance of recreational facilities; housing design and construction; public safety; and rehabilitation of historic structures.
