- This series contains catalogs, indexes, and bibliographies produced by the Works Progress Administration. The subjects of these publications are quite varied. Generally they are bibliographies or indexes of WPA studies or surveys. Guides include, but are not limited to, the following studies: records survey; real property survey; real estate activity; land use; dwelling survey; pedestrian traffic volume; suggestions for local government administration; and guidelines for preparing written materials.

This series contains the following catalogs and indexes by the Works Progress Administration: Catalogue of WPA Writers' Program Publications (September 1941); Index of Research Projects (3 vols., 1938-1939); Catalogue of Research Bulletins issued by FERA and WPA (September 1937); and Subject Index of Research Bulletins and Monographs issued by FERA and WPA (September 1937).
Also included are the following publications from the WPA Technical Series: Research and Records Projects Bibliography No. 1-5; Research and Records Projects Circular No. 1-5; Research, Statistical, and Survey Project Circular No. 1-7, 9-13; Public Administration Circular No. 1-4; Community Service Circular no. 2, 4, 6-7 (Writers' Program No. 1-4); Technical Services Laboratory Circular No. 1-2; Workers' Service Circular No. 1; and Public Activities Circular No. 13 (Library Service Circular No. 2).
The series also includes a few WPA manuals that are not parts of series, preliminary versions of some manuals, and manuals prepared in cooperation with the Federal Housing Administration or U.S. Housing Authority.

Custodial History
These records were transfered by the Work Projects Administration of New York to the State Library in 1943, and they were subsequently transferred to the State Archives as part of old collection #550, accession number -372.
