Scope and Content Note
This series consists of records documenting the work of the Executive Bureau of the State Energy Office. Included are files of the commissioner and various deputy commissioners (e.g. deputy commissioner for policy and planning). The Energy Office assists the governor and legislature to develop and implement policies relating to energy and the state's energy resources. As reflected in these records, staff represent the state in intergovernmental and interagency energy matters and carry out planning, policy analysis, and outreach activities to enhance the state's energy efficiency, conservation, and emergency preparedness.
The records include correspondence, policy memoranda, speeches, presentations, calendars, budget files, workload reports, personnel records and resumes of bureau staff, and other material used by executive level staff for research on programs and activities of the Energy Office.
The records include information on all Energy Office programs, relevant legislation, energy sources, utilities (e.g. General Electric Company, Shoreham, LILCO), outside liaison with corporate, research, and public interest groups (e.g. General Motors, Electric Power Research Institute, Public Utility Law Project), budget issues, policy initiatives (grant programs, task forces), work with the governor, the legislature, state and national agencies and associations (e.g. Public Service Commission, National Governor's Association), and special case files on energy emergencies, strikes (coal), gasoline shortages, and conferences.
Commissioners and deputy executive staff represented in the series include Jeffrey Cohen, William D. Cotter, William E. Davis, Eugene J. Gleason, Charles R. Guinn, James Larocca, and Francis J. Murray.
