Administrative History
Senator Efrain González, a Democrat, was first elected to the Senate in 1988. He represented the 31st Senate District (1989-1992), the 32nd Senate District (1993-2002), and the 33rd Senate District (2002-2008), which consists of all or part of the Bronx neighborhoods of Van Cortlandt Village, Kingsbridge, Norwood, Knightsbridge Heights, Bedford Park, Fordham, University Heights, Tremont, Tremont East, Mount Hope, and Bronx Park South. In May 2010, González was sentenced to seven years in federal prison for abusing the legislative member items process for personal gain.
Scope and Content Note
This series consists of an archival copy of the official website of Senator Efrain González produced on June 12, 2008, shortly after the resignation of Governor Eliot L. Spitzer (2007-2008). It contains biographical information; press releases (2008); photographs; a newsletter (2005); and mailers (some in Spanish) concerning the rights of tenants of rent-controlled apartments, prescription drug insurance, and other matters of interest to Senator González's constituents. A list of Senator González's member item initiatives (1993-94 through 2008-09) and a district map are also included.
Researchers should note that, owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of Web archiving technology, most of the information contained within this site could not be captured properly. In addition, some of the navigational links do not work properly. However, identical sets of navigational links appear at the top and the bottom of each page. If the link in one set does not work correctly, click the Web browser's Back button and then click on the corresponding link in the other set.
Researchers should also note that Senator González apparently did not have an official Web site as of late 2006, when Governor George E. Pataki (1995-2006) left office.
