Administrative History
The New York State Emergency Management Office is responsible for coordinating all activities necessary to protect New York's communities from natural, technological, and manmade disasters, as well as other emergencies that threaten the state. The agency coordinates emergency management services for New York by providing leadership, planning, education, and resources to protect lives, property, and the environment. A component of this function is the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), which is responsible for constantly monitoring state, federal, and local responses to disasters. It also provides information concerning accident/disaster assessments, changing environmental conditions, staff activities and assignments, and post emergency recovery activities. This information is used to help coordinate response efforts and is disseminated to the public.
The EOC has its main office in Albany, as well as five regional offices throughout the state. The Document Unit within the Albany office is the central repository for all of the EOC records (including those generated in the regional offices), and is therefore responsible for documenting the activation and activity of these centers.
