Scope and Content Note
Microfilmed records include tax assessment rolls, town clerk's record and minute book, index of chattel mortgages, and index of conditional sale contracts for the Town of Red Hook.
Tax assessment rolls (1910-1991) (including the villages of Tivoli and Red Hook) record the assessed value and levied tax for all town properties for each calendar year. The roll is administered by the town clerk or town tax collector. Volumes prior to 1951 are handwritten; volumes covering 1952-1973 are machine printed; records for 1974-1991 are computer printouts. Volumes for 1911, 1913, 1916 and 1963 are missing. The Assessor's Grievance Roll is included.
Town board minutes (1813-1993) include the proceedings of all meetings and all business transacted by the town board of Red Hook. Also included as inserts are reports, letters of resignation, resolutions, original bids, affidavits of publication, petitions, bonding, copies of legislation, subdivision regulations, agendas, insurance papers, rezoning requests or appointments.
The index of chattel mortgages (1878-1964) records the filing of loans using personal property as collateral with the town clerk. Included is the year of the mortgage, name of mortgagor, name of mortgagee, filing number, property covered, amount of mortgage, date of mortgage, time of filing, date due, date of cancellation, and date of renewal.
The index of conditional sale contracts (1922-1965) records the filing of retail installment contracts with the town clerk and includes name of buyer, name of seller, description and price of goods, date of contract and of filing. cancellation or renewal.
Village board minutes (1894-1993) document the proceedings and business of the board.

Custodial History
This microfilm was produced by a grant awarded and administered by SARA's Local Government Records Services for the 1994 grant cycle. Grantees submitted two copies of each roll of project film: a silver copy for secure storage at the State Records Center; and a duplicate copy, containing only non-restricted records, for public use at the State Archives research room.
Use copies of rolls containing restricted records are not maintained by the Archives, and are withdrawn from public use at time of accessioning. Security copies of such rolls are held at the State Records Center and are subject to restrictions under law.
Restricted film was marked and use copies were weeded at time of accession; 34 rolls of master negatives (security copy) were sent to the State Records Center (TL 95-65, 66).
